“Echoing more sleepy Santo & Johnny than hard-charging Pyramids, Rich Arithmetic’s summertime surf guitar single, “Saving Sunset (Last Surf Of The Day)” is a refreshing digestif for quasi-post Covid sundowns. With a Shadows-ish lead melody overlapping a traditional staccato rhythm (both played by north-of-Seattle guitarist Rich Horton (Arithmetic) – plus Ruppi Barnickel’s idyllic percussion – the instrumental track is top-notch West Coast surf. Though he’s known as an XTC-leaning, “intelligent pop” artist, it’s obvious that Horton has had his toes in the sand a few times.”

“Both songs have a big guitar sound to them reminiscent of the style of the great Jack Nitzsche, and are very cool.”
